AJ Pritchard: 'Not too happy' Strictly star called to BBC studio for bizarre

The professional dancer, AJ, 24, is dancing his way to week eight of the competition along with his celebrity dance partner, Lauren, 25, on Strictly Come Dancing 2018.

However, the Strictly star has recently revealed on his weekly Strictly vlogs he was called to the BBC studios “extra early” to practise skateboarding across the ballroom floor.

The dancer said: “I’m in the studio already. I had to come in extra early to practise skate boarding across the floor.

“Not too happy about that but on a positive note it’s so warm in here. I’m happy right now.”

The Strictly professional then filmed himself as he balanced on the skateboard with a helmet on his head as he talked to his cameraphone.

He said: “Guys I’m going to video me, skateboarding.”

While on the board, he added: “Great guys, so much health and safety.”

However, it seems his skateboard practise definitely paid off as he put his skills to the test on last week’s show.

AJ could be seen skateboarding across the ballroom floor at the start of his Jive performance with Lauren who was perched on top of the skateboard ramp.

The dancing pair strutted their moves to Avril Lavigne’s pop classic Girlfriend.

Their routine was a hit with the judges as head judge Shirley Ballas praised Lauren for not flinching as AJ jumped over her head.

Shirley said: “You did a move where AJ jumped over your head and it may appear to everybody how spectacular AJ looked.

“But let me tell you – for you to stand there and not wobble at all – congratulations.”

Bruno Tonioli described their routine as a “sharp, clear and clean jive”.

Judge Craig-Revel Horwood described Lauren’s performance as the “liveliest” and “most energetic” routine she has performed all series.

Even Darcey Bussell echoed a similar sentiment where she admitted Lauren was outperforming AJ.

She said: “You were outdoing AJ.”

The pair scored a total of 31 points out of 40 for their Jive.

They will be hoping to avoid the dance-off in tonight’s show as they prepare for their Viennese Waltz to Calum Scott and Leona Lewis’ You Are The Reason.

Strictly Come Dancing 2018 continues tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
