An enthralling game at the City Ground finished a point apiece as Nottingham Forest were held to a goal-less stalemate by Stoke City.
Aitor Karanka’s side couldn’t quite find the breakthrough they needed to go into the international break with back-to-back home wins – and they needed to battle at times, putting in a solid defensive display.
But it took a brilliant performance from Potters goalkeeper Jack Butland to deny them the three points, with the hosts having gone agonisingly close to netting a late winner.
You can watch Reds reporter Paul Taylor’s verdict on the 0-0 draw in our latest Forest video.
Boss Karanka largely stuck with the team which had beaten Sheffield United 1-0 a week earlier, with Jack Colback for Claudio Yacob the only change.
His team got off to something of a slow start as their visitors edged the opening stages – Stoke arguing they should have had a penalty when Costel Pantilimon raced out of his area in a bid to thwart Benik Afobe.
But the Reds had a good spell just before the interval as Lewis Grabban, Adlene Guedioura and Joao Carvalho all had chances.
City proved tough, resolute opponents, but Grabban had a clear sight of goal 10 minutes after the restart. The front man put his effort over the bar, though.
Butland thwarted Carvalho soon after, then continued to act as Forest’s nemesis, making an outstanding save from Joe Lolley and another from Grabban in the closing moments.
It meant the game finished 0-0, making it four unbeaten in the league for the Reds.
Karanka’s men will now have a fortnight’s respite before heading to Hull City when the Championship action resumes.
