Heaton is a wanted man with his Burnley future in big doubt.

The 32-year-old, who was three England caps, used to be the Clarets’ No.1 but is likely to be third-choice come the start of the New Year.

Summer signing Joe Hart is Sean Dyche’s current go-to man while Nick Pope recovers from a shoulder injury.

But with the England World Cup squad player now battling back to full fitness, Heaton could soon be demoted from Hart’s deputy and out of the matchday squad.

“He will instantly upgrade Villa and I think Leeds”

Adrian Clarke

That would free him up for a loan switch to the Championship – and Leeds and Villa are sniffing around a potential deal.

Journalist Adrian Clarke revealed their interest on the latest episode of The Totally Football League Show, and also ruled out a claim from guest pundit Sam Parkin that Bristol City are also after Heaton.

Clarke said: “On the goalkeeping situation, there are rumours abound that Villa and Leeds – Leeds another side I’ve said might need a new goalkeeper, not that I don’t rate Peacock-Farrell who had a really good game at the weekend, I do rate him, but I still think he’s a slight weak-link there if they’ve got aspirations to play in the Premier League – Tom Heaton at Burnley.”

Parkin then added: “Bristol City think they’re getting him!”

Sean Dyche

Clarke replied: “They’re not getting him. Let me tell you it will be Villa or Leeds if Burnley of course agree to let him go.

“I think it’s all dependent on the fitness of Nick Pope and when he’s able to get involved at Burnley.

“Whoever gets Tom Heaton – I’m pretty sure one of them will – that is a big leg up, because he will instantly upgrade Villa and I think Leeds.”

Villa are in action tonight away at rivals West Brom (8pm).

Leeds host QPR tomorrow at 3pm.
