Heather Watson became the first Brit to bow out of the 2019 Australian Open on Monday with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat by Petra Martic.
The British No 3 looked short of her best in the stifling Melbourne heat and required two medical timeouts during the match.
She lost in just 64 minutes to cap a disappointing couple of seasons that saw her drop back outside the top 100 on the eve of the tournament.

Watson struck a huge 26 unforced errors in defeat.
The 31st seed, Martic, will now meet the winner of the match between Russia’s Evgeniya Rodina and Czech Republic’s Marketa Vandrousova.
There was at least some cheer for British fans as Katie Boulter beat Ekaterina Makarova, with four more Brits in action on a bumper opening day of the fortnight.
