M11 traffic: Live updates as Southbound motorway closed at Stansted junction 8

The M11motorway remains closed southbound on Thursday morning between junctions 7 and 8 after a night of traffic chaos on the motorway.

Highways England said the closure will remain in place well into the morning.

There are also reports of an incident on the A120 westnound near Stansted Aiport just before the M11 slip road.

Queues are forming on the M11 approach to junction 8.

Highways England said: “M11 is closed between J8 Stansted Airport and J7 Harlow due to a serious collision. Essex Police have been conducting investigations throughout the night. Closure expected to remain in place throughout the morning.”

Emergency services were first called to a serious accident on the southbound carriageway between junctions 6 and 7 after 7pm.

Numerous ambulances were seen at the site of that crash, with the air ambulance also called.

At around 10.15pm police reported to the second accident had happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 8.

Police later confirmed that this was also a serious accident.

No injury updates have yet been issued.
