M6 traffic: Motorway closed southbound due to 'police incident'

A police incident has shut the M6 Staffordshire and it’s likely to be closed until rush hour, causing travel chaos.

The closure was first reported at around 3.20am this morning from J14 to J13 in the Stafford area.

The northbound carriageway was also shut along the same stretch, but this has now reopened, albeit with speed restrictions.

A Highways England spokesman said:  “The M6 in the West Midlands is closed near Stafford due to a police led incident between J14 and J13.

“Central Motorway Police Group are in attendance. Traffic is currently being diverted via local routes.

“Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and may wish to consider alternative routes.”
