Crewe Alex returned to home soil this afternoon after back-to-back away days.
A 1-0 loss at Tranmere last Friday and a 0-0 draw at Cambridge on Tuesday put a huge dent in the side’s already-slim Play Off hosts, but today they were back where they play best.
Though the Railwaymen had lost their last two at Gresty Road, they still boasted one of the best home records in League Two and were looking to get back on track against Crawley Town.
And they had a score to settle.
In November the Alex delivered one of their best footballing displays of the whole season but still somehow managed to lose 3-0.
The visitors, of course, wanted to complete a league double over Crewe and four points from their last two games did their confidence no harm at all.
A win over Grimsby and a draw with Mansfield had lifted them to within three places and four points of 15th-placed Crewe, and more return today would have taken them a step closer to safety.
In the end, it was a memorable day as Crewe hit six for the second time this term.
Here is how the day panned out, plus reaction from the manager and players afterwards.
