EMPOLI v FROSINONE
Sunday 17th March 2019
Pick: Empoli AH-0.25
Odds: 1.55 (odds taken at 01:39 GMT, 17 Mar 2019)
Off to the Italian top flight next and a look ahead to a relegation ‘six-pointer’ with 18th placed Empoli playing host to 19th placed Frosinone as the betting tips continue at the Stadio Carlo Castellani with a precious three points at stake for both teams here.
Empoli have managed just one win from their last 12 matches overall which was a 3-0 home win over Sassuolo but recent defeats to Lazio, AC Milan and Roma have ensured the hosts still remain in the bottom three of Serie A.
However, those three aforementioned defeats were all handed out to Empoli away from home, while at their Stadio Carlo Castellani, they’ve recently put together a promising three-match sequence without defeat and this includes a 3-0 win over Sassuolo along with draws with Chievo and Parma, in 2-2 and 3-3 stalemates.
Empoli’s home record has been slightly improved to a more respectable looking 5-3-6 22/23 and they’ve actually lost just three of their last nine home matches in recent times which is a vast improvement on what happened earlier in the season.
The hosts started the season with just one win out of their first five home matches of the season, but midfielder Krunic (4 goals) and forward Caputo (12 goals) have helped them make a recovery.
- Empoli are unbeaten in their last 3 matches at home in Serie A
- Empoli have lost just 3 of their last 9 matches at home
- Frosinone are 7 points adrift of safety in the relegation zone
Frosinone sit second from bottom in Serie A but have a five point deficit to make up on their hosts, Empoli, ahead of this vital relegation clash. Frosinone have lost three of their last four matches heading into this relegation battle, having suffered defeats to Juventus, Roma and Torino, and have picked up just one point from the last possible 12 on offer which was thanks to a 0-0 draw away at Genoa.
The visitors have recorded just one win from their last six matches overall which was a 1-0 win at Sampdoria, but they may not be too fazed by having to take to the road for this important encounter as all three of their league wins to date in Serie A have been achieved away from home.
Indeed, Frosinone remain the only team in the Italian top flight yet to record a win at home this season, while their away record reads 3-3-8 11/24.
A recent 3-0 win at Bologna may just have given the visitors a lifeline, but another defeat at Empoli today would be a big blow to their survival ambitions.
Betting Tips Verdict
With home advantage, Empoli may be worth taking here but I advise using the asian handicap on the hosts as pretty much anything could happen here…
