Watch incredible moment huge B-52 Stratofortress bombers land

This is the incredible moment enormous American B-52 bombers land at a RAF base in the largest US bomber deployment to the UK since the Iraq war.

Amazing photos and video footage have captured the impressive US fighter planes landing at RAF Fairford, in Gloucestershire.

They landed on Thursday and Friday (March 14 and 15), and the RAF base is now a temporary military base for the B-52 bombers.

The aircraft have joined the US European Command area of operations and they could be part of a deployment for flying training and ‘theatre integration’.

Their arrival comes ahead of a planned NATO exercise in Georgia, though it is unclear whether the B-52s will be involved.

Freelance photographer, Sam Whitfield, captured these incredible photos of the aircraft landing in Gloucestershire.

He says the noise was “mental”.

Sam, 28, from Plymouth, said: “Always good to see the B-52, but being so close to the massive bomber as it lands is something else. The noise was mental.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to photograph the aircraft, we drove for three hours to see these come in.

“The moody sky was pretty much matched the personality of the aircraft itself.”

NATO allies, including the UK and US, are preparing for war games in Georgia under the banner “NATO-GEO EX19”.

The military show of force in a nation bordering Russia comes almost 11 years after the two countries – former Soviet Union partners – fought a nine-day war over breakaway regions of Georgia.
